It seemed like the dreary weather was never going to cooperate but after going back and forth we attempted their engagement session anyway. I met Sharon + Bryan at the breathtaking Goodstay Gardens on the Wilmington campus of the University of Delaware. Even though heavy rain was impending, we decided to work quickly, dance in the rain if necessary and just have a good time regardless of what Mother Nature had in store for us.
Having photographed many weddings and engagements in Wilmington, Delaware, I had never been to the Goodstay Gardens on Pennsylvania Avenue. I must say, it is a wonderful hidden gem I will be returning to. Hiding just off the driveway and behind a tall stone wall was an amazing collection of well curated unique flowers and statues originally known as Green Hill and dates back to before 1685! Apparently, the gardens used to be full of vegetables and flowers and in 1938 was turned over to ornamental gardens when the University of Delaware took it over. I’d be remised if I didn’t say how stunning the peonies were! Since the impending weather was upon us, we lucked out and had the entire place to ourselves!
We strolled around dodging raindrops, talking about how these two met, their upcoming wedding at Salero on the Beach in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and of course the beautiful gardens.
I simply can’t wait until September for Sharon + Bryan to share their nuptials on the beach in Rehoboth Beach.
Thank you so much for daring the unpredictable weather with me!
The beautiful peony gardens was a perfect place to stop and enjoy!
The whole drive to Wilmington, Delaware it just kept raining and raining and we were just happy to have a few minutes of reprieve!
Sharon’s gorgeous engagement ring on top of this delicate peony!
