About two weeks ago I get a call from Kathleen asking if I was available to photograph her daughter Kait’s proposal. Kathleen and her husband Rick had been working on the logistics of a surprise proposal to their daughter from her boyfriend Adam near their beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. A neighbor offered a gazebo on Silver Lake that was set to be the proposal location. Kait and Adam live in Annapolis, Maryland so traveling to the beach on Memorial Day Weekend was going to be interesting. There was much communication between Kathleen and I leading up to the event just in case Kait was running early or late. Fortunately our schedule was right on track and just before 7pm the “lookout team” spotted Kait and Adam walking down the street. Kathleen had arranged to have rose petals lined on the entire path of the gazebo dock, a bottle of champagne, a bouquet of fresh flowers and the ring in a box placed at the end. I’m not sure who was more nervous as they approached the gazebo, Adam or myself. This was my first proposal so I wasn’t sure exactly how it was going to happen but armed with two cameras in hand I was ready. Adam escorted Kait down the dock as I stood behind a tree to capture it as it unfolded. I’m not sure exactly what Adam said to Kait but after getting down on one knee and presented the ring I saw Kait lean down, give him a kiss and then stand up and yell “I’m going to be a Pecina!” I’m guessing that meant she said yes! After giving them some time to enjoy the moment we all walked down to congratulate them. I can’t tell you how special it was for me to be a part of this surprise proposal. I hope you enjoy these photos showing how it all happened and congrats to you both!
